Why Houses To Rent In Ayr Are In Short Supply

If you work in Glasgow you may be looking for houses to rent in Ayr in order to escape city life. The Ancient Royal Burgh of Ayr is an attractive historic coastal town which enjoys miles of sandy beaches and is home to the University of the West of Scotland. It is only 37 miles from Glasgow and the train journey to Central Station takes well under an hour so commuting will be no problem. In fact transport links are superb with the excellent A77/M77 going direct to the heart of Glasgow and Prestwick International Airport only a few miles away.
Ayr would be a delightful place to live for many reasons. It is especially attractive for golf lovers as it has an amazing selection of world class golf courses including Turnberry and Royal Troon. However it is greatly loved by literature devotees as well since one of its biggest claims to fame is that the poet Robert Burns lived at Alloway an enchanting village only two miles away and his charming cottage is open for visitors.
Rental property in the town is currently very much in demand and in fact demand is keeping up with supply or even exceeding it. Rents although on the rise are lower than those for comparable properties in Glasgow and this combined with Ayrshire’s very affordable leasing fees makes renting property here a very attractive proposition. In addition there is continuing demand from employees of Prestwick Airport including airline crews and currently letting agents are advertising for two-bedroomed properties to cater for this market.
The majority of properties that do come on to the rental market are bungalows as single-storey houses are very common in this part of the world. A large proportion of landlords are farmers from the surrounding agricultural areas who often buy property in Ayr and other coastal towns as an investment. Of course many of the bungalows and cottages to let are holiday rentals as Ayr and its surroundings are a very popular tourist destination. The most sought-after areas for rental property in the town itself include the suburb of Wallacetown the trendy South Harbour Street close to the waterside and Craigie Road.
One project which will shortly ensure an increase in the supply of houses to rent in Ayr is the new development in the Dalmilling area close to the racecourse. A housing association has bought the former Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Good Shepherd and are creating 25 homes to rent on the site while still retaining many parts of the original cathedral. These two-bedroomed and three-bedroomed houses will be let at affordable rents and four of them will be specially adapted for the disabled.
The town of Ayr and its surroundings have so much to offer that it is not surprising that there is an increasing demand for properties to let. It really has the best of both worlds with its stunning scenery and coastal location and yet being within such easy reach of Glasgow. Houses to rent in Ayr are in short supply so when you find one take it before you lose it.
